History and Future of Management Communication QuarterlyPosted: January 3, 2013
What better time to offer my first post on the OaC blog than the start of a new year! Readers of Management Communication Quarterly will be interested in this podcast interview with outgoing editor-in-chief James Barker. Jim wraps up 6 1/2 years at the helm of the flagship journal for organizational communication scholarship, which also coincides with MCQ’s 25th anniversary. Jim and I discuss his experiences as editor and he comments on a variety of issues as MCQ looks towards the future. Also of note is a recent article I wrote for MCQ about the history of the journal. I reflect on topics of identity, inter-nationality, and inter-disciplinarity…and I enlist the help of other “emerging scholars” in organizational communication to discuss these issues further. I conclude with some thoughts about the future of an academic journal like MCQ in the digital age. Here’s to a prosperous and productive 2013…and another great year of organizational communication scholarship!
